Hehe. Just came back from a long weekend camping trip and am a bit astounded to see that there seems to be the need for further elaboration - one that is particularly directed towards me by the administrator himself. I mean, rather than remaining impartial, I do appreciate reading Zorba's perspective on his interpretation of "fairness" and relating it to different context/situations, but I was hoping to see more feedback from other individuals, especially players that have participated in MR tournament(s) concerning the tournaments themselves. Nothing more, nothing less.
In any case, I continue to stand by my own belief/perspective; That is, I do believe that nothing ever is fair. I believe that nothing is ever objective and I can give reasons to all those examples that Zorba have listed as to why they are not objective, but rather subjective. But I won't go this route, as it is
the entire PG population that I want my message directed towards, as a player.
If examples can better illustrate my viewpoint, then consider just this one example I would like to get across:
Why are some humans born with deformities, disabilities, without nurturing parents, with little to no basic necessities of life? Is there a why (is this fair?)? Born in a completely new world out of their own control, should we not (continue to) help and accomodate these individuals and improve their standards of living?
Likewise, should new players be brought into a completely new game and not be accomodated nor encouraged to continue playing the game? Should we not accomodate these new players, some way - some how, (i.e.- through segregation idea suggested above, etc..) and show that we care and encourage them to continue playing in order to participate in higher level tournaments and potentially earn better prizes?
I'm tired of seeing new players get discouraged and leaving the game (PG and MR). No, that was not their own problem and decision. Sure, ultimately that was their decision, but decisions are influenced by a multitude of factors;
Sometimes, all it take is one. Without help and support from the community, most new players cannot possibly feel encouraged to continue playing PG or MR. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way.. But, in the end, THAT was reality (only a few of you might know what I'm referring to with a recent promotional attempt that just exhausted and killed a part of me inside..). Needless to say, lesson learned.
But I digress, I will be asking friends and new players - everyone really - in the game about this matter concerning the fairness of MR tournaments. Since, after all, my rule of thumb is to draw conclusions until 95%+ of the population's opinions have been acknowledged.
Thanks for everyone's insight so far. Looking forward to see what others believe.
